Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed was born in Dhaka on 8 February 1954. Education and Early Career In 1970, he completed his studies in the Science Division from Tejgaon Polytechnic High School, securing 13th position in the combined merit list with 6 letters. In 1973, he passed the Higher Secondary Certificate examination from Dhaka College, securing First Division with 2 letters. In 1979, he obtained his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College and joined government service. In 1990, he received Special Basic Training from BATC, Savar. In January 1997, he obtained the FCPS (Medicine) degree. Subsequently, he served as a Consultant (Medicine) at Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Academic and Professional Career In February 1991, through the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, he joined IPGMR as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nephrology (Kidney). From 1992 to 1993, as a World Health Organization (WHO) Fellow, he received one year of training in Kidney Diseases at PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. In 1994, he joined Rajshahi Medical College as an Associate Professor in the Department of Nephrology (Kidney). Subsequently, he served in the same position at Barishal Medical College and the National Institute of Kidney Diseases. In July 2002, he joined Dhaka Medical College as a Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology (Kidney). In 2003, he obtained the FRCP (Edinburgh) degree. In 2004, he obtained the FACP (United States) degree, and in 2005, he obtained the FRCP (Glasgow) degree. In October 2006, he joined the National Institute of Kidney Diseases as Professor, Department of Nephrology (Kidney), and Director. From 1 January 2011, he retired from government service and has since been working at the Kidney Foundation Bangladesh as a Professor and Senior Consultant, where he continues to serve to date. Editorial and Professional Associations Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed served as the Editor of the Rajshahi Teachers Association (TAJ) Medical Journal and as an Assistant Editor of the Bangladesh Renal Journal. He is a Life Member of the following organizations: Bangladesh Renal Association Association of Physicians of Bangladesh Teachers Association, Rajshahi Medical College Teachers Association, Dhaka Medical College Bangladesh Medical Association Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons He served as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Renal Association and subsequently served as its Vice-President. At present, he is serving as the Honourable Treasurer of Kidney Foundation Bangladesh. Research and Publications Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed has published more than 95 scientific research papers in various medical journals at home and abroad. In addition, he has published articles on kidney diseases in various newspapers and periodicals. For the purpose of increasing public awareness, he has participated in more than one hundred programs on various television channels in Bangladesh. International Scientific Conferences He has participated in international scientific conferences on kidney diseases in various countries, including: India Pakistan Nepal Thailand Malaysia Singapore Indonesia Japan Philippines Australia Sri Lanka China UK Sweden Germany Italy Austria Czech Republic Turkey United States of America Canada Brazil South Africa Morocco Awards and Honors Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed has received the following awards: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose 2008 Medal Father of Bangabandhu Gold Medal Award 2009 Mother Teresa Gold Medal Award 2010 Family Background Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed is the son of Professor Emeritus Dr. A.K.M. Kafil Uddin, former Founder Director of NIPSM.
